"The Mental Game" sports podcast is for all athletes, coaches, organizations and parents. 

When we speak to coaches that have been around for over 25 years they say these athletes are different. How we ask. They seem less focused and more distracted. Coaches feel they need to keep practices moving much faster repeat instructions more and more. 

Jens and I talk about why young athletes are so distracted and lack focus. It is a multilayered discussion with many, many angles. 

  1. Family time- families are spending less time socializing and talking. 
  2. Sleep-many kids are staying up past 2am and have practice at 6am.
  3. Diet- is lumped into the addiction cycle in the brain. Sugar, phones and binge watching don't go well together, they feed off each other like a frenzy. 
  4. Athletes are less focused in general.
  5. Coaches say that are not as strong or coordinated than years past. Physicians attribute this to now they are on their phones 4-6 hours a day instead of outside playing each day. 
  6. Lack of resilience and self talk from consistent video watching and less socialization.
